I just met a parent who was very curious about the Montessori School philosophy and why I am offering this alternative school in Rochester. This video does a great job of explaining how montessori schools provide a very concrete presentation of math, sensorial and literacy concepts at a very early age (usually 3). With careful observation, the directress (or Montessori school teacher) monitors the child’s progress and understanding of concrete concepts and gradually provides a bridge from concrete to abstract.
It’s just a way of learning that is logical and makes sense. Maria Montessori developed this approach after watching and teaching children, so it is research-based and has been effective in Montessori schools all over the world, regardless of culture or economic conditions.
Enjoy the video! And if you are interested in an alternative to competitive, high priced private schools, feel free to give me a call!
