We are looking to form a new Readers’ Circle for children ages 5 – 8. This group is specifically for those who have enough letter, sound, and book knowledge to start reading simple books using basic reading strategies with teacher guidance.
Please Note: If your child is already enrolled in our preschool program, s/he will receive literacy or pre-literacy instruction during our usual class hours, as is appropriate for your child.
The format will follow a traditional Guided Reading Group:
- Shared Reading of big books and charts to introduce new words and conventions of print.
- Rereading familiar books to practice fluency and expression and build confidence.
- Teacher introduction of a new book to practice using basic reading strategies with support given as needed.
- Making and breaking words with magnetic letters to promote deeper visual analysis.
- Guided and Independent Writing to build an awareness of sound and letter connections and increase the cadre of known words.
These activities will be presented in a fun and engaging manner, drawing on common childhood themes that invite enthusiasm and exploration.
Cost is $15 per class. You can save by prepaying $75 on or before January 13th however this amount won’t be prorated if your child misses any classes.
